820 Spirits has been named ‘Beverage Producer of the Year’ at the first-ever New Milton Advertiser & Lymington Times Food and Drink Awards.
Renowned for its sustainably sourced botanical spirits and ‘Willy Wonka-esque’ innovations, the New Forest-based distillery scooped the coveted title at a special reception held at the Balmer Lawn Hotel in Brockenhurst.
Sponsored by Harvest Fine Foods, with the ‘Beverage Producer’ category supported by Lymington Seafood Festival, the award saw 820 Spirits up against some tough competition – but its bold brand identity, inventive flavour profiles and loyal fanbase helped them take home the win.
Run by brothers Tom and Jonny Simpson, 820 Spirits has been shaking up the local drinks scene since launching in 2020. Known for its adventurous twists on traditional distilling and award-winning range of spirits, it has earned a devoted following of customers and stockists who return time and again.
Recent highlights include the launch of limited-edition The Whisper Gin – an 82-day oak-aged, luxurious whiskey crafted in partnership with the Rolls-Royce Enthusiasts’ Club – and a duo of savoury creations including a ‘Cheesy Beans Jacket Potato’ and ‘Full English Breakfast’ flavour infusions, which are limited editions from April Fool’s Day.
Alongside its out-there curiosities, 820 Spirits has also established a solid foundation with its staple offerings, all distilled in the heart of the New Forest. Popular favourites include its classic London Dry Gin, Blackberry Gin, Miss Hanne’s Lymington Pink Gin, Chocolate Orange Gin, Sloe Gin, Dawes Golden Rum and Vodka.
“We are over the moon to have been named ‘Beverage Producer of the Year’, especially in the awards’ first year,” said Tom Simpson, founder and chief distiller.
“We’d like to say a huge thank you to our team, our brilliant customers, Hampshire Fare, and everyone who has supported us – we wouldn’t be here without them. Plus, a special thanks must go to the Advertiser and Times and its sponsors for putting on such a fantastic event.”
Co-founder Jonny added: “We’d also like to congratulate all the other nominees. The New Forest food and drink scene is brimming with talent, and we believe we’re entering a golden era for food and drinks connoisseurs alike thanks to some rather special businesses. We can’t wait to show you what else we have in store.”
